Share and Discuss Teaching Science in a Middle School

Hello, good science teacher folk!

In fulfilling a requirement for a technology/ELL class I am currently enrolled in, I am joining a Ning group, and sharing some observations with you about some links relating to Robert Marzano's ideas. He seems to stress drill and practice and such. There are a number of cool links through one site that direct the user to brain pop. I had my 7 year old son do some of the activities. He enjoyed it. Worth looking up Marzano strategies online.
I like the picture of the teacher who has himself in the trash bag. We did that experiment in my class. Every student got a chance to experience the thin, cold atmosphere for a bit. Other popular things we did were the imploding aluminum can (air pressure experiment), and the incredible expanding (and shrinking) marshmallow in a vacuum pump bell jar.
We are in California, so we did a great online interactive determining the epicenter of an earthquake activity. There are an amazing amount of resources at www.free.ed.gov. All right, until next.

kindness to the cosmos,
robert
